Polymarket Launches 15-Minute Gold and Silver Bets with Chainlink

Polymarket has launched 15-minute gold and silver prediction markets through an expanded Chainlink partnership, taking its short-duration price bets beyond cryptocurrencies.

Summary

  • Gold and silver markets are live, with more commodities, equities, and foreign exchange planned.
  • Chainlink reports over $11 billion in combined five- and 15-minute crypto-market trading volume.
  • Market makers can access the same Chainlink Data Streams used to power the markets.
  • Polymarket’s documentation separates Chainlink up/down settlement from its UMA-based prediction-market resolution process.

Chainlink announced the expansion in an Oct. 29 release, naming itself Polymarket’s official oracle for high-speed up/down markets. The launch brings precious metals into a format already used for short crypto price predictions, while leaving further commodity products, equities and foreign exchange on the rollout list.

In its subsequent Link post, Chainlink confirmed that gold and silver were live and described the next stages as more commodities, followed by equities and FX.

Polymarket takes its short-duration markets into metals

The expanded partnership builds on more than $11 billion in trading volume across Polymarket’s five- and 15-minute crypto price markets, according to Chainlink. The figure covers both durations together and is presented as accumulated trading activity, without a daily or monthly reporting window.

Gold and silver are the first live non-crypto products identified in the announcement. Neither company provided a launch schedule for the remaining asset classes or named the next commodities that would become available.

Neal Kumar, Polymarket’s chief legal officer, said Chainlink 24/7 would let traders take positions across a growing range of equity, commodity and FX markets around the clock. He described reliable, high-speed pricing as the infrastructure needed to introduce markets at scale and resolve them accurately.

The announcement identifies Chainlink Data Streams and the Chainlink Runtime Environment as the technology supplying Polymarket with pricing data. Chainlink says the infrastructure supports price delivery during market volatility, blockchain congestion, and cloud-service outages.

Chainlink prices determine up/down outcomes

Polymarket’s resolution documentation explains that its up/down markets use Chainlink time-weighted average price streams. Each market specifies an asset pair, a starting time, and a duration.

The opening time-weighted price becomes the price to beat. At the end of the specified period, another observation from the same stream supplies the final price. A time-weighted average represents an asset’s average price over a defined lookback window.

Under the documented rules, a final price equal to or above the opening benchmark resolves the market as “Up.” A lower final price produces a “Down” result. An unchanged benchmark therefore falls on the Up side of the comparison.

Polymarket describes this as a fixed comparison between defined inputs, without the proposal-and-dispute procedure used by its UMA-resolved markets. Its documentation says individual market rules specify the resolution source, end date, and treatment of edge cases.

For UMA markets, an outcome proposal normally faces a two-hour challenge period. Disputed outcomes can move through further proposals and a token-holder vote, a separate process from the Chainlink price comparison.

Market makers get access to the underlying data

Alongside the new products, Chainlink said market makers and algorithmic traders can obtain the same low-latency Data Streams powering Polymarket’s markets through self-service access. The company says participants can use those feeds to price newly introduced markets when trading begins.

On its Data Streams product page, Chainlink describes sub-second delivery and data covering U.S. equities, exchange-traded funds, FX pairs, and commodities. Available information includes market-status signals and indicators showing whether prices are stale or markets are outside active trading hours.

Polymarket’s trading guide describes a peer-to-peer order book where participants buy and sell outcome shares. Shares trade between zero and $1, with winning shares redeemable for $1 after resolution and losing shares worth zero.

Participants can sell their positions before resolution. The guide describes share prices as the market’s assessment of the probability that a particular outcome will occur.

The partnership began with crypto pricing in 2025

The companies’ original partnership announcement, published in September 2025, focused on asset-price resolution. It described an integration live on Polygon combining timestamped Data Streams reports with Chainlink Automation for onchain settlement.

At that point, the companies said they were exploring how Chainlink might support questions involving more subjective outcomes, alongside its use for price-based markets.

The latest release describes Polymarket US as a CFTC-regulated designated contract market under the Commodity Exchange Act. Its description of the metals launch does not specify whether those contracts are listed on the U.S. venue or identify the jurisdictions eligible to trade them.
