World has added World ID for banking and finance, a collection of identity verification tools designed to help financial institutions deal with risks related to artificial intelligence, including deepfake fraud and digital impersonation. The announcement was made by World co-founder Alex Blania at Money20/20.
Ensuring Human Interaction
The offering combines three existing technologies, the World ID app, World ID for Zoom, and World ID for Agents, to help with identity verification across customer interactions, internal operations, and automated financial services. The release comes as banks and other financial institutions face growing challenges in distinguishing valid customers from AI-generated identities.

World's new offering focuses on verifying human presence and identity-related data across digital interactions. The World ID app functions as a digital identity wallet, allowing users to manage and share credentials called Proofs. World ID for Zoom is meant to help participants confirm that people in video conferences are human rather than AI-generated impersonations.
World also announced the general availability of the Zoom integration, along with Tools for Humanity's participation in Zoom's independent software vendor trade program.
Next-Level Identity Verification
The third component, World ID for Agents, allows people to delegate certain verified credentials to AI agents, enabling those agents to provide the information when interacting with third-party platforms. The technology could potentially be used in situations involving financial transactions, account access, customer communications, and other activities where identity verification is important.
World said it is working with several design partners, including OpenExchange, Bain Capital, VanEck Funds, and Outtake, to explore applications in the financial services sector. The company has not disclosed specific deployment timelines or results from these collaborations.
However, the effectiveness of the tools in stopping financial fraud at scale remains to be established. Their implementation could also raise questions about integration with existing banking security systems, customer adoption, and the handling of identity-related data.
World said its technology includes cryptographic verification capabilities and is meant to support interactions involving both humans and AI agents. The company plans to present the technology to more enterprise audiences at Zoomtopia and Cloudflare Connect. According to World, more than 18 million people currently hold its Proof of Human credential, which forms the foundation of its broader identity verification network.
